Autumn Deliciousness

As I mentioned before, I love the Autumn season: it’s cosy and it’s delicious! I love those days indoors with a cosy blanket and a hot drink, watching Netflix (for children, of course, now there’s no other option haha) with my baby or playing with her. I love those walks in the park enjoying the different colours of this season and watching the leaves fall. I find it just so romantic… And of course, all the season products that we can find are just amazing! – Now you will be thinking that we can find many of the following products during all seasons… well, you’re right, but it’s always good eating seasonal foods as much as possible as they provide you with the nutrients, vitamins, minerals and fats that you need for that particular season. For a healthy lifestyle, it’s always advisable to take that into account and (of course), mix them in your favourite dishes! –

Seasonal vegetables:
Here we can find carrots, squash, pumpkin (hello Halloween), sweet potato, broccoli, spinach, kale, celery, rocket, mushrooms, and artichokes.
These vegetables offer an amazing variety of dishes that we can do with them, for example: soups, oven-cooked vegetables (very autumn), sautéed mushrooms, or cooked artichokes, among others.

Whole grains and Legumes:
These would be brown rise, quinoa, oats, millet, beans, chickpeas, lentils or soybeans.
You have just so many options…! If you use brown rice, note that it will take longer to cook. But, once cooked with some pesto sauce –basil is seasonal as well – it’s just delicious – pesto sauce doesn’t have to go always with pasta, boo –. Oats can be used to prepare granola, and chickpeas for a delicious hummus! If you want to step up, prepare a turmeric hummus.

We are talking about apples, pomegranates, citrus fruits and pears.
I love citrus fruits, their one of my favourites to cook also. As an example, you can have a look at the recipe I prepared almost at the beginning of this blog with pork and orange juice, it’s just delicious! Also, limes and lemons can be great to cook any fish – or you can use any of the seasonal fish mentioned in the following category.
And what to say about apples and pears? You know I love to put fruit into my salads, and apples and pears are a must in my kitchen for that, or to prepare some fruit to have in the morning with our breakfast.
For the little ones, you can grate an apple or pear with their breakfast or give it to them as a healthy snack.

Fish and Herbs:
In this last category, we can find sea bass, cod, sole and haddock for fish, and ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, rosemary, thyme, basil and dill for herbs.
It is always good to have some fish in the fridge/ freezer, as even if you prepare it in a really simple way, it’s always very tasty. For example, you can cook haddock in the oven with a dash of olive oil, salt, rosemary and the juice of a lime. You will love it!
And as per the herbs, just use them to season your dishes and give that extra flavour that the whole family will enjoy.
